I am so happy that John picked Don Quixote because it brought back one of my most pleasant memories of college. I remember reading a very small part of what I recall is a very long book and being deeply touched. I think that I was affected on two levels. The first was the tragedy of Don Quixote himself. But I also think that it affected my decision to be a historian. I see now that I have been hardened, professionalized, to the tragedy of the past and I wish that I could recover some of that emotion.
